Quito

Quito ist eine typische Anden Stadt, mitten in einem Tal und deshalb lang und schmal. Im Norden liegt das Finanz- und Geschäftsviertel während die meisten Leute im Süden leben. Was natürlich zu allmorgentlichem und abendlichem Stau führt. Mitten drin liegt das alte historische Zentrum.

Um Quito besser kennen zu lernen nahmen wir an der Nacht Tour von Washington teil. Diese fürhte uns an der Basilica vorbei in die San Juan Nachbarschaft, Toctiuco wo wir exotische Innereinen probierten, el placer und am Ende der Panecillo Hügel.

Quit is a typical Anden city, placed in a narrow valley and thus long and not very wide. In the north is the financial and business district while most of the people live in the south where the living is cheaper. Which lead the traffic jams every morning and evening. Right in the middle is the old historical center.

We took a lovely tour with our guide Washington through Quito by night. We visited the Basilica Church, stopped at the San Juan neighbourhood, Toctiuco neighbourhood with exotic food (intestines), el placer neighbourhood and El Panecillo hill.

TelefériQo

Der TelefériQo (von teleférico und Quito) ist eine im Jahre 2005 in Betrieb genommene Luftseilbahn in Quito, Ecuador. Sie führt von der Talstation unmittelbar am Stadtrand auf etwa 3050 m Höhe zur Bergstation auf 3950 m Höhe auf der Ostseite des Vulkans Pichincha. Kostenpunkt $9 pro Person. Geöffnet jeweils morgens ab 8 Uhr ausser am Wochenende (9 Uhr). Es lohnt sich eine der ersten Bergbahnen zu nehmen da schnell viele Leute die Aussicht geniessen möchten. Bei gutem Wetter kann man die schneebedeckten Vulkane Cotopaxi, Cayambe und Antisana sowie zahlreiche andere Berge sehen. Wir sahen nur kurz die Spitze vom Cotopaxi bevor er wieder in den Wolken verschwand.

The TelefériQo (from teleférico and Quito) is a gondola lift in Quito, Ecuador, running from the edge of the city centre up the east side of Pichincha Volcano. It was one of the highest aerial lifts in the world, rising from 3,050 m to 3,950 m. You pay around $9 per Person. It's open at 8 am during the week and on weekends at 9 am. We recommend a early trip since many people like to enjoy the view. When the weather is good you can see the snowy volcanos Cotopaxi, Cayambe and Antisana and many other mountains. We only saw the peak of Cotopaxi for a short time before it vanished into the clouds again.

Chapel of Mankind

Bei einem Besuch in Quito sollte unbedingt die Kapelle der Menschheit eingeplant werden. Guayasamin war ein berühmter Künstler von Ecuador der nicht an Gott glaubte. Nur sehr wenige seiner Bilder blieben in Ecuador. Er malte über 6000 Bilder, die meisten davon waren Serien wie die Landschaftsbilder von Quito, das Zeitalter des Zorns, Huacayñán, aber die meisten blieben nicht zusammen was ihn sehr beschäftigte. Sein Wunsch war etwas dem Volk von Ecuador zu hinterlassen, weshalb er die Kapelle bauen lies.

Der Tempel ist ziemlich anspruchsvoll wegen seinem Hauptthema das Zeitalter des Zorns aber sehr beeindruckend. Sein Haus ist fast das komplette Gegenteil, da Guayasamin viele Artefakte aus der Pre-Kolonial- und Kolonialzeit und der moderne sammelte. Weshalb man viele religiöse Symbole vorfindet obwohl er ein bekennender Atheist war.

If you visit Quito you should visit the Chapel of Mankind. Guayasamin was an Artist from Equador that didn't believe in god. From his many paintings only a handful stayed in Ecuador. He painted more than 6000 paintings, a lot of them were series like landscapes of Quito, the age of anger, Huacayñán, but most of them didn't stay together what really bothered him. He really wanted to give something to the people of Equador. Thus he built the Chapel of Mankind.

The Temple is quite heavy because of the theme age of anger but really impressive. The house is almost the complete opposite since he collected lots of artefacts from the pre-colonial, colonial and modern time. So you will find a lot of relegious symbols in his house even though he was an atheist.

The entry is 8$, if you have a student card it will be 4$. Take a taxi or Uber because the Chapel is quite high up.

The hot springs of Papallacta

Papallacta ist eine kleine Stadt nahe Quito auf einer Höhe von 3300m in den Anden. Mehrere heisse Quellen und Bäder liegen dort. Zusammen mit Washinton erkundeten wir die Flora dieser Region und genossen danach ein heisses Bad in den Quellen.

Papallacta is a small village near Quito at an altitude of 3,300 m in the Andes. Several hot springs and spas are located in Papallacta. We took another Tour with Washington and got to know the Flora of this region and later soaked our skin in the hot baths.
